Episode 38 – A Bridge Too Far – 1977

Before Michael Bay, there was A Bridge Too Far, a crazy spectacle of explosions, great actors and more explosions. And to cover this we invite the always funny Razvan Florian to help us out. We discuss a dramatically good-looking Robert Redford, British luck and incompetent leaders.

Episode 37 – Fahrenheit 451 – 1966

We are burning bright like a pile of books doused in gasoline in this episode and it is all thanks to my two co-hosts. Jack Holmes is re- and Greg Rekus is joining FFPÖ and we have a blast at covering a true classic: Fahrenheit 451. We discuss old ladies, new technologies in the 60s, pill use and stomach pumps.

Episode 34 – The Odessa File – Die Akte Odessa – 1974

A very serious movie gets the very serious FFPÖ-treatment and we have one of the best new co-hosts to help us out: the funny and insightful Sonja Pikart discusses with me topics such us: 70s progressiveness, German sleeping culture, laziness, great set design and Chekhov’s gun.

Episode 15 – Aufschneider (Sang chaud et chambre froide) – Teil 1 – 2010

Merry Christmas everyone, what better way to celebrate this wonderful season than to listen to a new episode of FFPÖ? Because nothing says Happy Holidays more than a super, super dark comedy made by the Austrian master himself, Josef Hader, in a co-production with ARTE. Organs get stolen, people get harassed, cars get smashed, alcohol is consumed and dialogue so cringy that your toenails will bend up, all in all the perfect complement for the season and Nelly and I are trying to give it appropriate frame.

Episode 10 – Das finstere Tal – The Dark Valley – 2014

For the 10th episode, we prepared something special, made in the US of A with a real New York comedian as my guest host Julianna D. Meagher, how exciting. We look at the 2014 break-out hit from Austria, The Dark Valley, an Austrian movie in the style of a western and we ask too many questions with too many answers in this behemoth of an episode.

Episode 9 – Die fetten Jahre sind vorbei – The Edukators – 2004

In a very special episode of FFPÖ we don’t have one American co-host but instead doubling down on the Austrian and we have a brand new guest co-host embodied by the funny and smart Florian Reichl and also a secret guest pops up, so stay tuned for our review of The Edukators, a movie from 2004 that revolutionized Austrian and German filmmaking and with a message that still rings true today.

Episode 4 – Ein halbes Leben (Half a Life) – 2009

A moving movie where the inability to move on drives the plot. Nelly and Paul try to give other actors next to Josef Hader a chance but his saddening appearance and demeanor just overshadow everything, including the horrifying and complicated matter that this film presents us with. Definitely not for the faint of heart.
